Call for Action and Commitments

This Call for Action and Commitments is intended to develop a comprehensive portfolio of activities that contribute to the 2020 Targets of the AEEP. The actions/contributions will be presented at the Second High-Level Meeting of the AEEP in Addis Ababa and ultimately culminate into an Action Programme for the Achievement of the AEEP 2020 Targets. By participating in the Call, you – or your organization – will have the opportunity to contribute to the initiation of a new Action Programme on energy between Africa and the EU.

The 2020 Targets are:

Access

Energy Security

to modern an sustainable energy services to at least an additional

100 million Africans

2x

  • the capacity of cross-border electricity interconnections
  • the use of natural gas
  • African gas exports to Europe

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

10,000 MW

of new hydropower

5,000 MW

of wind power

3x

the capacity of all other renewables

500 MW

of all forms of solar power

Efficiency

Increase energy efficiency in Africa in all sectors


The Call invites governments, international organisations and non-state actors to propose actions and commitments that will help to substantially increase energy access, energy security as well as the use of renewable and energy efficiency sources.

There are no plans to negotiate individual proposals at or before the Conference. All actions and commitments included in the Call will be of a voluntary nature.

Turning Commitments into Action!

In recognition of the challenges involved in achieving the AEEP 2020 Targets and in appreciation of the high-level participation at the 2nd High Level Meeting of the AEEP, proposed actions and commitments should satisfy the following criteria :

  • significance,
  • novelty/additionality,
  • and monitoring.
