Asia leads the charge in growth of renewable energy

TOKYO -- In 2017, Asia accounted for nearly two-thirds of the worldwide increase in renewable energy generating capacity, according to a report published in April by the International Renewable Energy Agency.

As the economies of Asia develop, demand for energy is rising. Governments have focused more attention recently on renewable energy -- wind, solar, bioenergy, geothermal and hydropower -- due to concerns over security of supply, price volatility and environmental issues.
